Methodology
How we verify listings
Every listing on GroomFetch started as a public business record and had to pass one test before publishing: is this a genuine come-to-you mobile groomer, not a fixed salon? Here is the whole process, including what we throw away.
Where the data comes from
We collect candidate businesses from public Google Maps business listings, pulled through a commercial data provider, by searching for mobile dog grooming across US cities. That search casts a wide net on purpose: it returns real mobile groomers, but also plenty of fixed salons, pet stores, and unrelated businesses that happen to match the query. The current dataset started from 27,895 candidate records. Where a business runs its own website, we also read that site for details like services and service area.
What gets published, and what gets cut
Each candidate is checked against the evidence we can find (its Google listing, its website, how it describes itself) and scored on one question: does this business actually drive to the customer? We publish a listing only when that check says mobile with high confidence. Of the 27,895 candidates, 3,966 passed (about 14%). The other 23,929 were cut, mostly fixed salons and businesses we could not confirm as mobile.
We also scrub the records we keep:
- Dead links are dropped. Google retired its free "business.site" pages, so those URLs are removed rather than sending you to a 404.
- Ratings and review counts come straight from the public Google listing. We do not edit them, and listings cannot pay to improve them.
- Business descriptions are written or paraphrased by us, never copied from the business's own marketing.
How listings are ordered
City pages order listings by the strength of their public record: Google rating, review count, and how complete the listing's details are. You can re-sort by rating, review count, or name on any city page. No groomer can pay for placement, and we take no commission; when you book, you deal with the business directly.
What we do not know
Honesty about the gaps: most groomers do not publish a price list, so the directory rarely shows prices, and quotes depend on your dog's size and coat anyway. Details like phone numbers and service areas come from public sources and can go stale between our data refreshes. Always confirm price and availability with the groomer before booking. And in cities where we list fewer than 3 groomers, coverage is thin; check the nearby cities linked on each page.
Today's numbers
The directory currently lists 3,966 verified mobile groomers across 1,102 cities in 49 states. 3,397 of them carry at least one Google review. These figures are computed from the dataset at build time, so this page always matches what the directory actually shows.
